Jerez, March 13, 2015. The first deputy mayor and coordinator of Jerez World Capital of Motorcycling, Antonio Saldaña, accompanied by the delegate of Tourism, Culture and Festivities, Antonio Real, the councilor in charge of the Special Plan for Cultural Promotion, Antonio Montero and the commercial director of Radio Jerez, Daniel Riba, today introduced the Supermoto World Championship to be held in Jerez on 28th and 29th March, in the calendar of sports events Jerez World Capital of Motorcycling and the entertainment programming to be held to mark the event.

"For the first time in history a Supermoto World Championship will be held in Jerez," said Antonio Saldaña who has emphasized that Jerez will be the first of eight tests of the competition ending on 20 September in Jessolo (Italy).

Saldaña pointed out that this sporting event is part of the axis 1 of the Master Plan of Jerez World Capital of Motorcycling, that includes the celebration in the city of the Supermoto, Enduro, Trial and Freestyle world competitions.

Antonio Saldaña has offered all the technical details of the championship to be held in the circuit 'Ciudad de Jerez', located in the González Hontoria park, opposite to Chapin Municipal Stadium.

The street circuit has a length of 1,134.88 m. and a width between 8 and 11 m, 242.940 m. land and 892.946 m. asphalt.

Regarding the schedule, free and time practices will take place on Saturday, March 28, and S1 GP (catalogued as World Championship and to be played by key riders of this category) and S2 races (scoring for the European Championship) on Sunday 29. The latter has 26 riders registered so far.

Among the favorites, the Swiss Marc Reiner Sdmith with TM and Toni Klem, third in the last season of the European Championship, who has changed his bike and team this year, currently with TM in Factory Team.

The test will have a significant presence of Spanish riders in this category, Joan Lopez, Mathew Ford, Gerard BAICO, Parra Zoe, Sorribes Porta and Abel Urizarbarrena.

The I Supermoto Trophy "Ciudad de Jerez", reserved for categories SM-Open, SM- Master and SM-Promises, will also be celebrated with the participation of the best national specialists in this discipline.

 

Admission to both training and racing is free.

The boxes will be placed on the outside of the track with access from Pablo Neruda Street.

The entire perimeter of the track shall be marked with security features and also the area of the public will have high and low hurdles to define the space.

Antonio Saldaña also stressed the "spectacular nature" of this test by the specific characteristics of this modality that combines the speed and motocross and develops in circuits that provide 70% asphalt and 30% of land, with shorter straights and closer corners "so that pilots will ride in an aggressive and very spectacular way that the audience will enjoy this weekend".

Entertainment programming

During the presentation of the Supermoto World Championship, the coordinator of Jerez World Capital of Motorcycling explained that all these events will take place in three areas: the sporting event itself, the organization of a gastronomic event around the same and a concert, "with the aim of offering a range of leisure activities that help to boost the economy of the city and attract visitors to Jerez" continued Antonio Saldaña.

Thus, on Saturday 28 at 14 pm, a tasting berza (local dish) will be offered in the Gonzalez Hontoria Park.

Saldaña also highlighted the open and participatory nature of the activity and noted that "Jerez World Capital of Motorcycling invites citizens, fans and visitors to live this great weekend in Jerez".

Also that day, at 19 pm the first concert that will be organized to mark the event will take place.

It will be a concert organized by the World Capital of Motorcycling,   Jerez Radio and Top 40 in the Chapin Municipal Stadium (Northern End).

Free entry with invitations, subject to available seating.

Among the participating artists: Lucy Paradise, Micky Rodriguez, Ramses Lopez, Quini Rivera, Amelie, VJ Carlos Mejias and Laura Low.

Similarly, the coordinator Jerez World Capital of Motorcycling announced that next Wednesday, March 18, at 11 am, Jorge Martínez 'Aspar' will discover his star on the Walk of Fame Jerez.
